Integrated use of traditional printed documents and electronic information technologies forms the kernel of information provision strategy of the AL UL. Bibliographic data bases are considered the main tool for global search of scientific and technical information; coordinated acquisition of data bases (more than 8 are available at present, ScienceDirect , SpringerLink are among them) and the conclusion of license agreement with the international on-line information system STN International is the principal component of the collection development policy. Access to electronic journals, full text and full image data bases substantially supplement complete learning of information, a number of them are available in the AL UL e.g. LETA, Letonika, ABCD Times. At the same time full texts of the most valuable scientific and technical information is available only in printed form up to now; development of document delivery service is a substantial tool in addition to traditional interlibrary loan to satisfy all requests of patrons for necessary information. Several agreements with international document supply systems (The British Library Document Supply Centre, SUBITO) ensure real execution of any request via Internet or by mail in a short time. Creation of its own information sources is also necessary to ensure an authentic information support. A number of bibliographic data bases, full image collections and electronic duplicates are developed and installed on servers of the AL UL. |
