The collection stores images of the Baltics, including photos, postcards and prints of cities and settlements in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania from the 19th century to 1940.
There are engravings of the historic cultural landscapes of Vidzeme, Kurzeme and Estonia from the19th century ("Album baltischer Ansichten" by W. S. Stavenhagen), postcards of towns in Kurzeme and Lithuania from the first half of 20th century, photos of buildings and their interiors in Cēsis and Riga (e.g., interior of the hotel “Roma”). The images visually document events and objects of historical significance which have now physically vanished and have irreversibly perished.
