The Professor spent most of his life working for the University of Giessen and also worked as a German and comparative literature professor in the University of Bristol, University of New York, University of Buenos Aires, University of Ceylon and other higher schools.
In 2001 and 2002 Dr. Helmut Winter worked in the UL Faculty of Modern Languages (now the Faculty of Humanities). In 2004 he was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Latvia. That same year he passed away, leaving his generous philological library to the Faculty of Modern Languages. The donation includes editions in various fields of science, but particularly large is the collection of works, in both English and German, on literature research in English and German and English, American and German fiction.
The donation is a part of holdings of the UL Library Humanities library.
