The department is a structural unit of the library, and its goal is to promote the realization of the library’s mission by ensuring the creation, storage, availability, preservation and development of the collection of informational resources in accordance with the informational needs of the users. One of the main operational tasks of the department is to provide library users with information resources according to the directions of studies and research of UL. The questions concerning creation and development of the collection are decided in collaboration with the UL structural units, student self-government, academic and general staff of the faculties, and consultations are provided to the UL employees.

The department ensures the availability of bibliographic descriptions of the library’s information resources in the Electronic Union Catalogue of Latvian Libraries of National Significance.
